Dr. Terry Guthrie

Principal

Boulevard Heights/ Transition Center

It is a pleasure to be serving the students, staff, and parents of Boulevard Heights School and the Transition Center Programs as Principal. I have been serving the students of FWISD since 1999. Before coming to FWISD, I served as a high school resource teacher at Dumas ISD in Dumas, TX. I began my career in FWISD as an elementary self-contained special education teacher at Boulevard Heights in the fall of 1999. After serving in this capacity, I was moved out of the classroom into a consulting role where I served all FWISD consulting on behaviors, instruction, classroom structure, etc. in special education classrooms. After providing consultative services for 6 years, I became the Teacher/Coordinator for the Transition Center LIFT Program located in the Administration Building. I served in this capacity for 3 years before becoming the Assistant Principal for BHS and the TC programs. I served the programs as assistant principal for 7 years before being promoted to the principalship. I received my BS in Interdisciplinary Studies with an emphasis in Special Education from West Texas A&M University, my MEd in Educational Leadership from Texas Woman's University, and my Ph.D. in Special Education from the College of Professional Education at Texas Woman's University. I believe that every student has within them the capacity to learn, grow and develop when provided an appropriately tailored instructional learning environment.

Ms. Tiya Major M.Ed.

Assistant Principal

I have been in education for 23 years. I am Afro-Latina originally from California where I served as a Teacher Assistant in special education for eight years. I moved to Texas in 2008 where I served as a program assistant for two years as a high school special education teacher at Boulevard Heights for ten years. In 2008, I left the classroom to become a Behavior Intervention Specialist for the district, where I served for the past five years.

I received my bachelor's degree from Texas Wesleyan in Psychology. I have two master's degrees, one in Special Education and the other in Curriculum and Instruction from Western Governors University. I am currently in the dissertation phase of my doctoral degree in Education with a specialization in Social Emotional Learning at Northcentral University.

I am a mom of four beautiful children ranging from toddlers to adulthood, so life is definitely busy and adventurous. I am excited to be returning back to Boulevard Heights and Transition Center. I look forward to building a positive school culture that is conducive to learning and building positive relationships.
